Officer Murray was a natural fit when the Merrimack Police Department created its first School Resource Officer for the Merrimack High School.  Over the last 13 years Officer Murray has become an important influence with students, teachers, faculty and staff at the school.  Students who have long since graduated have approached “Murray” (as he is collectively nicknamed) and the staff at the high school to tell them what a positive influence he was with them.  Officer Murray has the unique ability to make each person he encounters feel better about themselves, and helped more than one student travel down a better path for them to become productive and resourceful members of society.

On his own time Officer Murray coached various sports at Merrimack High School. Acted as class advisor to help mentor students and he is the captain of the “seat belt challenge” team who recently took 4th place in the state wide competition.  Officer Murray has taken his role as the School Resource Officer and made it into something that students and teachers look up to.  He is highly depended on to keep the peace and act as a “guidance counselor” all at the same time.  He handles both with professionalism and compassion.

Almost since the beginning of Officer Murray’s career as a police officer he has been actively involved with NH Special Olympics.  He has organized and participated for many years in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, and helped raise thousands of dollars toward a worthy cause that holds a special place in his heart.  Each year Office Murray distributes medals and awards to Special Olympians at the Winter and Summer games, and the bowling competition in the fall, bringing smiles to each and every athlete.  Officer Murray has been chosen twice to represent NH internationally as an ambassador.   Officer Murray has been known to jump into the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Winnipesauke during frigid conditions to raise money for the Special Olympics!

Officer Murray is one of the most dedicated police officers the Merrimack Police Department has ever met and they cannot think of a more deserving person.

It is with great honor that the NH Police Fire & EMS Foundation presents the Police Lifetime Achievement Award to Officer Michael Murray.
