POLICE LIEUTENANT JAMES McLAUGHLIN

Lieutenant McLaughlin is a 35 year veteran of the Keene Police Department and continues to consistently perform at an extremely high level a commander of the Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau. Lt. McLaughlin’s role is to maintain responsibility for the investigation of all serous crime that occur within the City. His bureau is also tasked with the vetting of all new officer candidate applicants: this vetting process ensures that the Department only hires the most qualified candidates that are likely to “fit” with the Keene Department and the community needs.
Lt. McLaughlin’s knowledge of case law and its specific applicability to issues/crimes that come to his attention are unmatched. On regular occasions Lt. McLaughlin continues to discuss and refer case law to his team of investigators with the goal of expanding their own knowledge. He also regularly locates and shares pertinent patrol case law with patrol officers and supervisors as well. Lt. McLaughlin maintains keen and consistent awareness of his subordinates’ case loads, investigative activities, and actively seeks out relevant training opportunities to better their, and thus the team’s investigative skills.
Lt. McLaughlin continues to direct his team of detectives in a most painstakingly, intelligent, consistent, and methodical manner with respect to two homicide investigations the department currently has open. His unit’s regular caseload ha not been compromised despite these interview, intensive murder cases.
Lt. James McLaughlin is a valued member of the Keene Police Department, and his knowledge and capabilities a both a criminal investigator and department manager greatly benefits our department and the community.
