Lt. Pierre Pouliot 2015 Law Enforcement Person of the Year

Pierre Pouliot                                                               Goffstown Police Department

2015 Police Service Lifetime Achievement

Chief Steven L. Marshall and the Goffstown Police Department proudly nominated Lt. Pierre Pouliot for his lifetime commitment to the NH Police Cadet Training Academy.

In 1984 and 1985, then Goffstown Police Explorer Pierre Pouliot attended the Cadet Academy as a youth member.  At that time, the Academy had a two year program and he attended the Basic and Advanced sessions that were held at St. Anselm’s College.  He continued his involvement in the Explorer Post until he aged out.  He attained his college degree and was eventually hired as a Patrolman with the Goffstown Police Department.

In 1999 Lt. Pouliot was selected to serve as an Advisor to the Basic Academy.  In that capacity he oversaw and mentored a group of up to ten young adults aged 14-20 who were assigned to his Squad, one of 10 Basic Squads.  After a few years he and 2 other Advisors provided guidance and direction to a smaller Academy class of 30.  That required him to have much more direct contact with the Cadets, providing a higher level of mentorship, command bearing, and personal presence.

In 2010 Lt. Pouliot was promoted to Advanced Academy Assistant Commander.  In that rose he was directly responsible for all operations of the Advanced Academy.  While he was Assistant Commander, he was instrumental in helping realign the operation of the Cadet Academy as it moved from the long time venue at Hesser College t the new host at the NH Technical Institute.

Lt. Pouliot does all tasks well, as well as providing assistance to the other Assistant Commanders, Commander and Academy Coordinator in preparation for and operation of the Cadet Academy.  It should be noted that as Lt. Pouliot was gaining more authority and responsibility with the Cadet Academy, his supervisor and Commander were seeing the same traits in his professional development and he was being assigned more tasks and missions as he rose through the ranks of the Goffstown Police.  By the time Lt. Pouliot was promoted to Assistant Commander to Commander of the Cadet Academy, he was a Goffstown Police Lieutenant and Division Commander.

In 2012 when the Cadet Academy commander retired, the Academy Committee voted to not hold any type of selection process and unanimously appointed Lt. Pouliot as Academy Commander.  2013 became a point in history of the Cadet Academy, as not only was it the 40th consecutive session of the program, Lt. Pouliot became the first Cadet in history to work his way through the Cadet Academy ranks and attain the position of Academy Commander!  He now not only has the responsibility for overall logistical and operational planning for the Cadet Academy, his first graduation would include planning a 40th anniversary celebration!

While Lt. Pouliot has been undertaking his duties with the Cadet Academy and the Goffstown Police Department, he has found time to marry, have three sons, stay active with the Explorer Post, serve on the Goffstown Main Street Committee, take leadership positions in his church, help with the church’s youth group, coach soccer and many other civic activities too numerous to list.

Lt . Pouliot has the uncanny ability to connect with everyone involved with the Cadet Academy, from the youngest Cadet enrolled, to seasoned police officers, and parents and sponsors.  Lt. Pouliot truly is the face and spirit of why the Cadet Academy was established 42 year ago.  He has spent his lifetime making the program what it is today.

It is a great honor that the NH Police, Fire & EMS Foundation presents Lt. Pierre Pouliot with the Police Lifetime Achievement Award!
